The pedestal is placed under the washbasin. Some choose to glue it in place, but it can be advantageous not to do so. Instead, position it close enough to the washbasin so that it remains in place, but still allows for angling the pedestal out to access the trap. Part of the pedestal's function is to support some of the weight in case an abnormal load is placed on the washbasin. Therefore, there should not be too large a gap between the washbasin and the pedestal.
